We believe mobile technology can connect everyone to healthcare at very low cost. Our technology is already changing the healthcare industry by connecting people, funders and providers in Kenya and Nigeria through a single mobile health platform. Our platform empowers the individual to access health insurance schemes and pay for healthcare efficiently and transparently via their mobile phone. We are proud to have over 5 million people, more than 4,400 healthcare clinics and a growing number of insurers use our platform. And it’s growing every day.

Since the start, CarePay has gained international traction. In 2017, CarePay won the FT/IFC Transformational Business Award and in 2018 CarePay was recognized as Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum. In 2019, CarePay won the Swiss Re Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award. As Head of Data you will have the dual responsibility for the product direction and technical execution of data products at CarePay. You will work with a talented, motivated, and well established team of data engineers (Elena, Patrick O), analysts (Margaret, Patrick N), scientists (Kamil, Patrick vG) and QA (Sylvia) across Nairobi, Lagos, Amsterdam, and Madrid. Key responsibilities of the team include reporting pipelines, self-service data warehousing and business intelligence dashboards, analytics products in our portals, and ML-based fraud detection. Our technology stack includes Snowflake, dbt, Python, Metabase, Java, and Singer, all hosted in AWS with Kubernetes.

You will also work closely with internal and external business stakeholders as well as other platform product owners and technical leads to ensure the data team is having a high, measurable impact in achieving CarePay’s mission.

Minimal Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant data experience
• 2 years of proven track record leading, mentoring and developing a team of engineers
• 2 years of proven track record in setting and executing a product strategy in the data space

• Interest in global development and healthcare
• Proficient in python and SQL
• English speaking ‍

Preferred qualifications

• Work experience in the healthcare, insurance or global development sectors
• Experience with AWS, dbt, Snowflake, Metabase, Java
• Proficient with Agile and Scrum frameworks
• Knowledge of containerized applications and distributed systems/micro services
• Experience with leading discussions with senior non-technical stakeholders

• Experience working in a highly competitive, international business environment
